Biography

Marilena Papachristodoulou is a member of our Regulatory and Tax practice group in the Cyprus office. She regularly advises Cypriot and multinational companies on data protection and artificial intelligence matters, cybersecurity and other regulatory law issues. Marilena also works closely with our Transactional team and Banking & Finance practice group. Her expertise extends to other aspects of law such as advising on corporate and commercial law matters. Prior to joining us in 2021, Marilena was a trainee lawyer in the litigation department of another law firm in Cyprus, where she gained experience in corporate litigation. Marilena is ...

Working on an ongoing basis with a developer, owner and operator of casino gaming and entertainment casino resort facilities in Asia listed on NASDAQ to assist with the GDPR compliance of their Cyprus operations, this being their first foray in Europe.

Providing support to litigation proceedings on data protection considerations of civil law and corporate litigation claims.

Providing data protection advice to company setting up its VPN business.

Advising on applicable privacy and data protection considerations in connection with a number of high-profile banking acquisitions in Cyprus.

Assistance on projects involving the usage of artificial intelligence as well as the exploitation of the biometric data in the gaming and banking and finance sectors.

Advising and coordinating project involving the review of hundred transfers of personal data outside the EEA, in order to legitimise the data transfers, carry out the impact assessment of data transfers and negotiate the necessary corrective measures.

Drafting and negotiating international commercial and technology supply agreements e.g. software license and software service agreements.

Drafting data protection policies and privacy notices for a number of Cypriot and multinational entities, including businesses in the financial services and cybersecurity industries.

Advising and handling the notification process to the Cypriot Competition Authority in relation to potential concentration of undertakings of major importance for pharmaceutical manufacturing company specializing in the manufacturing and sale of generic pharmaceutical products.

Advising one of the world's fastest-growing hotel groups across Europe, the UK, and Israel on the regulatory implications of hotel acquisitions, specifically focusing on the duty to notify of concentrations.

Advising the International Swaps and Derivatives Association (ISDA) and various banks in relation to netting and collateral enforceability.
