Following November’s update on EU’s adoption of framework for sanctions on Turkey, the EU Council has officially released the full text of Regulation (EU) 2019/1890 concerning restrictive measures in view of Turkey’s unauthorised drilling activities in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The regulation provides for the travel ban and freezing of funds and economic resources of listed persons, entities or bodies. Those to be listed are deemed responsible for, or involved in the planning, preparing, participating in, directing, or assisting in, drilling activities in relation to hydrocarbon exploration and production, or hydrocarbon extraction, or providing financial, technical or material support for such activities, where these activities have not been authorised by the Republic of Cyprus.
The European Council has yet to release the official list of targeted persons, entities or bodies, the identities of which remain to be seen.
