Appointment of Mr Gerhard Wallbank
Harneys welcomes the announcement earlier this week from the Judicial and Legal Services Commission that Mr Gerhard Wallbank has been appointed to act as High Court Judge of the BVI Commercial Court for a period of three years with effect from 14 October 2019.
A highly skilled and experienced commercial practitioner who brings a wealth of experience to the appointment, Justice Wallbank has previously acted as a High Court Judge of both the BVI Commercial Court and High Court (Civil Circuit) as well as of the High Courts of Antigua and Barbuda, Grenada and Nevis.
The term of Justice Wallbank’s appointment will bring welcome stability to the bench of the BVI Commercial Court (a division of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court), which specialises in cross-border and high value commercial, company, trusts and insolvency law matters.
Since the BVI Commercial Court’s opening in 2009, the volume of commercial and insolvency litigation has increased exponentially in the Territory and the court continues to play a key role in the BVI’s financial services sector.
