Harneys strengthens capabilities in Cyprus with senior appointments

Harneys is pleased to announce the appointment of George Apostolou to the Cyprus office. George has joined as a partner specialising in the areas of corporate and commercial, banking and finance, private equity, trusts and project and asset finance transactions. His career highlights include advising the International Monetary Fund, the European Stability Mechanism and the EU Single Resolution Board during and following the 2013 Cyprus financial crisis. George was instrumental in navigating these bodies through this turbulent period brought about by the collapse of the Cypriot banking sector and supported them in bailing-out the Cypriot state, government and economy. During his 17-year long career, George’s clients have included Facebook, the European Investment Fund, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, KPMG, Deloitte and Grant Thornton.

We are also extremely pleased to announce our cooperation with Alexander Rymko. Alexander renders his services as an International Senior Counsel for the firm’s banking and finance and investment funds and regulatory practices. Alexander has practiced law in the financial services sector for more than 20 years, and has, throughout his career, represented lenders and borrowers in cross-border financings across a broad range of industry sectors. He also has significant experience in helping his clients with financial services regulations. Alexander's work has led him to being recognised by Chambers Global, Chambers Europe, Legal 500 and IFLR1000. Prior to Harneys, Alexander headed the banking and finance practice at a major international law firm and before that was head of legal at one of the world's largest banks based in Moscow.

“The combined experience of George and Alexander greatly enhances our service offering and strengthens our market-leading position as one of the top law firms in Cyprus. We are very pleased to see our firm go from strength to strength,” said Pavlos Aristodemou, Managing Partner of Harneys in Cyprus.

George commented: “I am truly delighted and deeply honoured to be joining Harneys as a partner and look forward to working with a stellar international team of expert lawyers - the only one of its kind in Cyprus - and across the firm’s global network.”

Alexander commented: “Harneys has an excellent reputation and I am extremely pleased to be cooperating with the firm during an exciting period of international growth and expansion.”

Harneys’ Cyprus office was founded in 2006 as Aristodemou Loizides Yiolitis & Co and in 2009 merged with Harneys to become the first international law firm in Cyprus. The office now has more than 20 qualified lawyers including six partners.
